Calm in the Chaos: 5 Grounding Practices to Protect Your Energy This Holiday Season

The Holidays Are Here… and So Is the Overwhelm

December is supposed to feel “magical,” right?

But for so many women — especially mothers, military spouses, high-achieving professionals, and those carrying invisible emotional loads — this time of year feels more like controlled chaos.

More events.

More expectations.

More emotional labor.

More pressure to “be on” and “be happy.”

If you're feeling exhausted, overstimulated, or disconnected from your own energy…

you’re not doing anything wrong.

Your nervous system is simply asking for support.

Here are five coaching-informed grounding practices to help you protect your peace and stay rooted in your Self-Energy this holiday season.

1. The 60-Second Centering Pause

Before you rush into a task or conversation, place one hand on your chest and one on your abdomen.

Inhale through your nose for 4 counts, exhale for 6 counts.

Tell yourself:

“I am allowed to slow down.”

This small shift cues your nervous system to come back to baseline, especially during moments of overstimulation or decision fatigue.

2. Energy Mapping: What Drains You vs. What Fuels You

Take 2–3 minutes and make two quick lists:

Drains: interactions, tasks, expectations, environments

Fuels: supportive people, quiet spaces, grounding routines

Then ask yourself:

How can I add 10% more of what fuels me this week?

Coaching teaches us that small shifts create powerful momentum.

3. “One Small Thing” Daily Commitment

Instead of huge, unrealistic self-care goals, choose one tiny, meaningful ritual you can return to every day.

A warm tea.

A 5-minute quiet moment.

A grounding stretch.

A mindful walk to the mailbox.

Consistency creates safety.

Safety creates flow.

Flow creates energy.

4. The “No, Thank You” Boundary Template

Gift yourself permission to say less this season.

Here’s a simple boundary you can borrow:

“I appreciate the invite so much. I’m keeping things slow this season to support my well-being, so I won’t be able to make it, but thank you for thinking of me.”

Boundaries aren’t rejection.

Boundaries are self-leadership.

5. The Evening Release Ritual

Before bed, ask yourself:

What can I let go of from today?

What deserves my attention tomorrow?

What can wait?

What needs compassion?

This helps shift you from chaos → clarity.

Even 2 minutes is enough to reset your energy.
